3 More Ways to Boost Your Productivity

I share weekly tips in my popular Friday Five Newsletter, many of which are about keeping organized at work and at home.

Utilize professional/work tools

Good professional tools can streamline your workload and simplify your processes. I have tested out tons of work tools over the years and I’ve developed a list of my tried and true favorites. 

I keep ​this website page updated with the tools I'm using professionally​—from what I'm using for graphic design to which business credit card I like to affordable in-person headshots and more (like the accountant I recommend who works in all states).

Say what you will do, not what you won't...

As I was reading reviews for Uptime : A Practical Guide to Personal Productivity and Wellbeing (which was on my TBR list at the time), I came across a review that shared this useful tip:

"Say what you will do, not what you won't. That is, instead of saying “I don’t instant message outside my work hours,” you might say “I’m available by messaging between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.” Instead of saying “I’m not taking any new clients right now,” you could say “I’m taking new clients starting in August.” Instead of saying “I can’t do a career chat this week,” you say “I do career chats on the third Thursday of the month” or whatever time you’ve slotted into your schedule for various nice-to-do things."

It’s a great practice that allows us to maintain our boundaries without blocking opportunities we may want to take advantage of in the future, and enables us to communicate our boundaries in a way that provides action steps for the recipient to follow up on rather than creating a barrier.
