Earth Day Activities for Kids
One of my favorite email newsletters, Mighty Girl, recently put out a list of great Earth Day books for children. As I went through to decide which to buy for my family, I realized that we would likely have fun with an Earth Day Countdown in the tradition of our other holiday countdowns (for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter).
I came up with a short countdown – just 6 days – that I think will be meaningful for us and provide the enjoyment we typically get from opening up an envelope and doing a small activity as we get closer to holidays.
For our countdown, we will be doing the following 6 activities:
Reading Miss Fox’s Class Goes Green.
Using this Earth Day Activity book to put our learning into action.
Painting a flower pot and planting some flowers and herbs.
Sorting a box of throw-away items into our recycling bin, compost bin, and trash can.
Grabbing small trash bags and going for a walk around our neighborhood to pick up litter.
If you’d like to do a similar countdown with your family, feel free to download this editable file. You’ll just put each page into an envelope and kids open one each day as you get closer to Earth Day itself (April 22).
